Please help if you can ... We live in Kentucky. My 18-year-old daughter has highlighted her hair several times and now it has become thin and frizzy ... This is a worry to her daily ... Do you have any suggestions on products she could use to repair the damage? Would really appreciate your help.
Answer:
What is happening to your daughter is not uncommon. A couple of suggestions. I recommend you use a rinse that you can make at home with apple cider vinegar. Fine hair loves to be acidic. Hair has a cuticle layer on the outside of the hair shaft. When over bleached, it stands up like a shingle on a roof. I suggest she take about 5-6 ounces of water and mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to stop the breakage and close the cuticle layer on the hair shaft. She may need to repeat this once a week for several weeks. Over bleached hair has a tendency to go very alkaline and will revert back quickly. Since fine hair loves to be acidic, choose a moisturizer that is high in protein and moisture. "Oil Moisture" Hydrating (water) moisture will just make her hair frizzier. Stay away from waxy products. They will only coat the hair and prevent the hair from absorbing the protein and the moisture it needs. My recommendation is for an oil-based conditioner which will weigh the hair down a little, but be better than frizz.
Make sure in the future that she understands highlights should be touched up only on the root. Do not pull bleach through the ends over and over again. If a professional did this, go back and ask for a deep conditioning treatment of oil base. Continue the acid treatments at home. I hope I have helped. I will have my own product line soon and will email it to you when it comes available this holiday season.
